The World’s Biggest Book Exchange
To Support Rivkah
In late July, we saw a Reddit post from Rivkah asking for book recommendations that would help her cope with an uncertain timeline on life following a terminal prognosis.
We sent her a message and decided we’d try to help build her a lasting legacy by creating the World’s Biggest Book Exchange!
Live For Another is an online community all about helping others. We try to find creative ways to help someone, like this book exchange!

Who is Rivkah?
Our biggest goal is to help Rivkah build a legacy by creating a HUGE social movement to rally behind her and show our support.
We are also asking for donations to help us fulfill her wishlist of 50 books. These were recommended to her as the best books to help her cope with her terminal diagnosis.

Rivkah is a 34-year-old woman who has been told she could die at any time, following a diagnosis of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. She is currently living her best life in Des Moines Iowa with her boyfriend, their two cats and 14 year old miniature dachshund.
We want to build her legacy by making this book exchange.
Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, or EDS, is a rare genetic disorder that results in defective connective tissue. While some EDS patients have relatively minor complications, others experience catastrophic issues and have a reduced life-expectancy.
Connective tissues are involved in every part of the body, and with Rivkah’s specific form of EDS, it has had ill-effects throughout her body. From her nervous system to her skin. Everyone with EDS has some similar symptoms, but also have varying severity of the disease. Hers is attacking her nervous system, stomach and intestines, as well as her heart. Ehlers-Danlos has caused a very long list of other diagnoses she has that make her unable to do things an average 34 year old can do. EDS is considered a rare disease that affects less than 200,000 people a year. For more information on EDS check out the Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome Society at: www.ehlers-danlos.com.
I recently got back into reading, so I was browsing the internet looking for book recommendations. That’s when I came across Rivkah’s post: she was asking for book recommendations to help her cope with a terminal diagnosis. The book community offered hundreds of book ideas ranging from sublime to the humorous. I realized that both Rivkah and I look to books for similar reasons, so I thought I’d reach out to see if I could help her build a legacy.
Live For Another is a documentary series where we help people in creative ways. Our online community is going to help Rivkah find the inspiration and peace she needs to face death with dignity, pose and laughter.
Rivkah’s original post received hundreds of replies, but that’s an overwhelming amount of books. Instead, Rivkah and I came up with the idea to create a lasting legacy by honoring her love of reading.
Since she uses books as a way to escape her terminal diagnosis, we thought it would be awesome if hundreds of people come to share their favorite books with a stranger.
Reading can transport people to far-off places. It can help others escape the reality of their daily pain. By using #BucketListBook, you’ll be recommending your favorite book to Rivkah and showing your support. But don’t stop there. Take it a step farther and participate in the book exchange. You’ll help create a lasting tribute to Rivkah by being part of the world’s largest book exchange! You’ll also get to share your book with someone else, then receive a surprise book yourself!
First, post a picture of yourself on social media holding your favorite book. Make sure to use #BucketListBook and challenge 3 friends to do the same!
Then, fill out this form so we can match you with someone else in the exchange. Then, on October 12th we’ll send you an address of where to send your book. Take it to the post office or drop it in the mail and wait for someone else’s favorite book to arrive at your house. Read the book and be transported to that far-off place or escape the reality of daily life.
Besides the ability to brag that you participated in the world’s largest book exchange and the eternal gratitude of a woman with a terminal diagnosis, you’ll get a book in return. Read the book. Enjoy it or wonder how someone else could like it so much.
Your favorite book is special to you, I get it! If you don’t want to send & receive a book, you can still show your support for Rivkah by using #BucketListBook on social media.
If you’d like to support Live For Another, that’d be amazing! We use donations to make make videos where we try and help people in creative ways, like this book exchange!
Participation is limited to people living in the United States. If you use Media Mail, it should be about $5 to ship a book.
The only information we need is your email and address. Once we make a match, we will provide your address to the person responsible for sending you a book, and you’ll receive the address of where to send your book. We’ll use your email to keep in touch with book exchange updates.
We use secure HTTPS for all of our forms.
Not to worry! I’ve been gathering a big giant pile of books just in case. If you don’t receive a book from someone, I’ll make sure to send you one 🙂
